Deanna Moncrief, M.S., C.N.S.
Deanna Moncrief earned her graduate degree in Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics at The Chicago Medical School after completing her undergraduate degree in Dietetics and Food Science at the University of Hawai’i. For the past decade, Deanna has maintained a private nutrition practice where she sees clients for weight management, eating disorders, and chronic disease management.
Ms. Moncrief earned a certification in Adult Weight Management by the American Dietetic Association in 2009 and is pursuing a similar certificate in Adolescent Weight Management (expected in 2011). For three years she was the nutrition therapist at the Anorexia & Bulimia Center of Hawai’i, an internationally‐recognized outpatient clinic for adult women with disordered eating. It was here that she honed her skills in motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and nutrition therapy techniques. She was supervised by Dr. Anita Johnston, an internationally recognized author and expert on eating disorders.
Ms. Moncrief has been a guest nutrition lecturer at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu and also conducts nutrition education programs for small‐ and mid‐sized companies across the United States, including Fortune 100 companies. Deanna is also the nutrition education coordinator for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation’s ‘AINA In Schools program, one which brings nutrition education to over 1,100 elementary school children on Oahu.
Deanna’s other projects include developing nutrition coverage policies for insurance companies, delivering wellness program training to hundreds of people across the U.S., and serving as a content expert for events such as Ford Motor Company’s Road to Kona Triathalon.
Deanna is active in several organizations, including being recently appointed to the Hawaii Dietetic Association Board of Directors. She is a proponent of healthy school lunch and farm to school programs, and serves on the steering committee of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation, as well as maintains membership in the Food Security Coalition, Hawaii Public Health Association, and the Society for Nutrition Education (SNE). In 2009, she was awarded the national Public Health Nutrition Educator Award by SNE for her work in developing the nutrition education program for Hawaii’s schools.
Deanna is also a member of the American Dietetic Association, American College of Nutrition, American Society for Nutrition, and the Rotary Foundation.
